Republicans Could Have Prevented The Pulse Shooting But Chose Not To

As you all know, Orlando is mourning right now. There are at least 50 families that are living out their days without a brother, sister, father, mother, son, daughter, or friend. While there are many questions, the most obvious question to which there is no immediate answer to is… Why?

Right now thing we really know about the shooter, Omar Mateen, is that he pledged allegiance to ISIS, he was homophobic, and he was on an FBI watch list on more than one occasion.   The terrible thing about this tragedy is that the laws of this country permit placing men like Omar Mateen on a ‘No Fly List’, but does not permit anyone from preventing men like Omar Mateen from obtaining firearms.  As logical as it may sound, the Right-Wing nuts and NRA Lobbyists will never allow it from actually happening.

Back in December, 2015, the GOP flexed their muscles to block a bill that could have prevented the worst gun massacre in the history of the United States, but chose not to.   The bill was proposed shortly after the San Bernadino shooting and was going to prevent suspected terrorists from purchasing firearms.  After the bill was blocked, California Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) was vocal about her disapproval Congress’s inability to stand up against the Gun Lobby.

“If you need proof that Congress is a hostage to the gun lobby, look no further than today’s vote blocking a bill to prevent known or suspected terrorists from buying guns and explosives.” – Sen. Dianne Feinstein
