Bruins trade Milan Lucic to L.A. and Dougie Hamilton to Calgary

milan-lucicThe Boston Bruins have traded forward Milan Lucic to the Los Angeles Kings on Friday in exchange for the No. 13 overall selection in the 2015 NHL draft, along with goaltender Martin Jones and prospect Colin Miller, the team announced Friday.  Lucic, 27, had one year remaining on his current contract worth $6.5 million and would have been an unrestricted free agent after the 2015-16 season. He was looking for a contract extension with Boston.

Sucks to see Looch go, liked him a lot, I think he was overhyped from the get go and the bar was set high for him when the comparisons were made comparing Lucic to Cam Neely, but it wasn’t his fault. Not too sure how I feel about this one… I don’t know if we could have retained him after this year though…

The Bruins ALSO traded Defensemen, Dougie Hamilton to the Calgary Flames for the 15th, 45th, and 52d picks in this year’s draft. I think Dougie was a great long term asset that was given up on too soon… hamilton-lucic-140425-thumb-620xauto-362241

This trade now leaves the Boston Bruins with the 13th, 14th, and 15th picks in this years draft which is considered by most to be one of the deepest draft classes in a long time.

It sucks to see these two guys go. But I am excited for the potential talent we are bringing in… I’m not ready to give up on new GM Don Sweeney yet…
